  • Rachel Abbott, MD

    • Hometown: Valencia, CA (Magic Mountain!)

    • If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be: A baker, gardener, language enthusiast, cultural anthropologist, wine tasting guru

    • Hobbies: Running, hiking, wine drinking, traveling with some cycling and yoga on the side

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: My perfect day in San Diego includes a run down to Mission Bay with my kids (with a stop along the way for an acai bowl), some child-at-heart play, then a drive to Escondido wineries for an afternoon of wine drinking with friends and family (with my favorite Veggie Supreme sandwich from Board and Brew for lunch), and an early bedtime

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: I love my broad-spectrum practice that includes prenatal care via Centering Pregnancy group care, caring for babies through centenarians and my budding interest in integrating climate and equity into our residency curriculum. I also love that some of closest friendships have started from within our residency program

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: From the beginning, I loved being a resident here because the faculty were so supportive in helping my growth as a physician, and now I get the privilege of being a part of future physicians’ lives. I love the people I work with and I love working with the variety of patients that we get to see!

    • Hobbies: Cardio/Dance, HIIT, Kickboxing, Surge FIT, Jogging, Cooking, Baking, Playing with my kids/dogs/husband (is that a funny order?!), Golfing, and DIY projects

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: The dining options abound – definitely eating/drinking out. Then spending time outside at the beach, pool, parks

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: Residency should be the most challenging time of your medical career – because it is also the time where you have all of your Faculty and peers supporting you and there to help you succeed. This program will keep you on your toes, but you won’t feel it. You have the ability to balance the work/learning with your family and personal development and interests. THIS is a well-rounded education!

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: Being so close to our beautiful beaches, the beautiful weather all year long, riding our bikes on the amazing trails around town and of course all the delicious restaurants
