    • Hobbies: Going to the beach, spending time with my family and fiance, cooking, yoga, crocheting, backpacking, surfing (but only when the water is warm lol), gardening, reading (especially thrillers), skiing, card games, and being a cat mom to my perfectly crazy kitty, Elton :)

    • If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be: A firefighter!

    • Hobbies: Anything that involves hanging out with my wife and our dog! Weight training, hiking, snowboarding, paddle boarding, volleyball, softball, playing guitar. Watching all the sports and cheering on the Canucks, Blue Jays, and Raptors. Watching every single F1 race and daydreaming about being best friends with Lewis Hamilton. Hopefully adding surfing to the list now that we get to live in San Diego.

    • Hobbies: pour over coffee, mixology, trying new recipes and restaurants, reading sci-fi/fantasy books, soccer, skiing, hiking

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: Beach, exploring coffee shops and bars, Hillcrest Farmer’s Market, going hiking with friends 

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: My co-residents and our faculty make the program feel like family, which creates a supportive environment for excellent training in Family Medicine.  

  • Daniela Parga, MD

    • Hometown: Scottsdale, Arizona

    • If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be: If I could sing, I would have loved to be a singer in a rock band (if you have not heard me sing, consider yourself lucky). I have always loved 80's rock music and even had a blue electric guitar when I was little!

    • Hobbies: Rollerblading, kickboxing, going to the dog park and on walks with my two dogs, overwatering plants, listening to music too loudly, trying out new restaurants, reading anything by Sarah J. Maas, going to farmer’s markets!

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: My favorite thing to do in SD is be outside. Everyday is a beautiful day here and there is literally perfect weather year round. I love walking on the beach, rollerblading next to the bay and hanging out with the residents. There is always something so fun to do here. There is never a weekend where I have just stayed inside the whole time. It is the best! 

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: I love this program because these are people that I choose to spend literally all my weekends with. My fiancé has also made some best friends in this program and that speaks volumes to the closeness and inclusivity of this program. I have kept up with a lot of my friends from medical school, and I can say without a doubt that I do not know of a closer residency than ours. We are truly family, and I know we have formed life long friendships.

    • If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be: Dream - playing in the NBA, Reality - Probably doing something with mentorship

    • Hobbies: Traveling, photography, dystopian novels, crossword puzzles, basketball, plant decor, and learning new skills

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: Exploring the different neighborhoods, enjoying diverse food, hanging out with residents, playing basketball with co-residents/faculty, and spending time with my partner when she visits.

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: The co-residents are incredible. Everyone is incredibly supportive and kind, it truly feels like one big family. 

  • Allison Volcheck, DO

    • If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be: an investigative journalist

    • Hobbies: surfing, thrift shopping, practicing Spanish, cooking, and running if there is a good view involved!

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: running along sunset cliffs, eating gelato at Ans, attempting to surf and exploring all the good food and drinks! 

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: I love my co residents and being able to explore San Diego with them, the great training in women’s health and the opportunity to go on global health trips.

    • Hobbies: Backpacking, biking (especially if the destination includes a brewery), camping, reading, weightlifting, and cooking vegetarian food for my friends and family!

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: You can find me hiking, trying to surf, biking around the city exploring breweries and spending time with friends outdoors.

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: Aside from the amazing people and community, I love being able to curate my training to my interests. We are very supported in our passions within medicine and get well-rounded training.

    • Hobbies: Going to the beach, camping, cooking, trying new restaurants and spending time with my partner/cats!

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: try new restaurants/coffee shops, read on the beach, paddle board, rollerblade, and walk around the different neighborhoods!

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: the co-residents are the best part!!!! I love all the residents I work with/get to hang out with. I also love the ample elective time to explore personal interests, and the accessibility of specialists while you’re in clinic to ask quick questions is a great educational benefit!

  • Dru Martinez, MD

    • If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be: An engineer thinking about being a doctor :)

    • Hobbies: I love sports that get me outside and/or together with others! I especially love basketball and have been getting into golf recently too! One of my niche hobbies is being an audiophile and listening to hi-fidelity music! My other passions include learning and practicing wellness, especially regarding mindfulness, plant-based diets, exercise, and sleep!

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: explore new things/events with friends, be outside, skateboard along Mission/Pacific Beach, play basketball at the Snapdragon park, try new restaurants and breweries!

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: It's a family. I think we receive outstanding training, support, opportunities and we get to go through it all with some of the best of the best people!

    • If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be: I would own a national parks themed breakfast cafe.

    • Hobbies: Baking, weightlifting, trying new foods, planning trips

    • Favorite things to do in San Diego: Exploring new restaurants and speakeasies. And also hills and mountains never fail to impress a Florida girl.

    • Why I love KPSDFMR: My co-residents! Couldn't have asked for a better group of people and friends. Even though we work together all week, I still look forward to hanging out and doing fun activities on the weekend.
